CRC Money Pit Grows by $42M

Planning for the Columbia River Crossing, already approaching $100M, will apparently get a $42M injection from Senator Patty Murray.

Anyone want to start a pool on whether planning costs for this bridge will exceed the actual construction cost of the Sellwood bridge?

    And as a bonus the CRC will have none of the positive impact or public support!

    The CRC project was based on Dire Straits lyrics…

    ~~~>As I was saying, this GREAT RECESSION, ALMOST AS BAD AS THE GREAT DEPRESSION, means that there is no money in Amerika! NONE! Better cut off unemployment, get rid of social security, THERE JUST IS NO MORE MONEY IN AMERIKA!
    Will the public ever wake up to the cruel hoax that is being played on us?
  3. …I suppose they could build it incrementally…
    Or maybe they just want to keep the Taskforce together for a “Next Generation?” How long to burn through $42 m?
    As per al M’s comment: I was told by a State Rep. that the chance of the CRC going ahead were still pretty slim. Her reason: “No Money.”
    And no, it will be awhile before it exceeds the Sellwood Bridge project, which is pegged at $330 million. I have been telling Multnomah County that the Sellwood Bridge probably has 1000 tons of concrete that could just go away, even after retrofitting with lighter materials. It is very unusually built, for a metal truss bridge. Replace the roadway with steel grating and you could make that 2000 tons. That should allow for a reappraisal of its sufficiency rating.
    Again, as with the CRC, “No Money.”
  4. Let’s show some sympathy. Champagne breakfasts aren’t cheap. Well, even as someone who has commuted over the current Interstate Bridge that’s what this is starting to sound like.
