This is a badly-designed survey — it implies there are NO options in-between spending $4.2 billion and doing nothing. That is simply not the case.
Now we’ve had two recent surveys with flaws. One survey does not discuss costs in any way, and the other strongly implies an either/or situation which does not reflect reality.
I think more people would support if they removed the light-rail portion.. that would also reduce the project cost by approximately 1/3 and wouldn’t require millions of dollars in developer subsidies to artificially inflate ridership numbers.
[…] “wouldn’t require millions of dollars in developer subsidies to artificially inflate ridership numbers.”
To the extent that subsidies stimulate development one way or another, they quite clearly do not “artificially inflate” ridership numbers. Those people might not live/work along a line depending on the subsidies (that’s a separate argument), but they are indeed genuine riders.
Online polls are a joke. If anyone uses these numbers for *anything* without taking a cubic meter of salt with it, they are insane.
Here’s just two easy ways to stuff this particular ballot box:
1. Cookie clearing allows revoting.
2. Different browsers (and also different computers) use different cookie stores, thus allow revoting.
I’m sure it’s open to an amazing amount of other things one could do with script attacks, but I just don’t care enough to find out… though it would be funny to set a computer to blazing away at “Undecided” all weekend until it has 98% of the vote.
If the Milwaukie LRT line touted its $1.4B cost more often people would reconsider their support I bet. That would be about $3,200 for a family of four! Oh but you agree with the project so let’s not talk about that. Hy–cr–e!

Are you referring to anyone in particular? The cost of the Milwaukie line has been discussed here before and a diverse array of opinions about the merits of the project have been posted by our regular commenters.
If you were referring to me specifically, I can confidently declare that I’ve never touted a silly web poll as being indicative of public support for the Milwuakie line, so you’re way off-base.

PS… Simple web polls like this are inherently unscientific, which is a polite way of saying that they are completely useless.
Yea BOBBY R-
BUT——>
It’s still 3:1,
yes killing the no’s!
Al M (your pal)
“BUT——>” … that doesn’t mean _anything_, one way or another. If it was 3:1 the other way, I wouldn’t be touting it.
Well Bob-
When it comes to splitting hairs;
YOU ARE DA MASTER!

WHO U CALLING INSANE?
As far as the poll is concerned, I believe the Oregonian conducted their own poll and it had similar results.
