And… We’re Back!

Welcome to the new and improved Portland Transport!

3000+ posts and close to 50,000 comments have been converted (boy are my fingers tired).

In addition to the bright and shiny new theme provided by Steve Bozzone of Bozz Media, there are a number of features we hope you will appreciate:

  • No more ads
  • Threaded comments
  • Weekly open threads

Giving credit where credit is due, we appreciate the permission and skills of Jonathan Maus, Steph Routh and TriMet for the imagery in our new header (maybe it won’t take us 8 years for the next header update).

There will be additional features rolling out over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

For those of you who are nostalgic, the old version of the site will be preserved for posterity at archive.portlandtransport.com.

Now please meet the first of our new contributors: Alex Craghead.

  1. Well I want to be the contrarian so I liked the old site better!

And you’re right scott, the avatar looks like a car! LOL!!!LOL!!!

(so you don’t have the preview screen anymore? Prepare for many many mispellings and bad grammer)

  2. Thumbs up! Kudos for all your hard work. Converting thousands of posts wouldn’t have been **my** first choice for how to spend a holiday weekend, so I commend you.

  3. Thank god! I don’t want to speak ill of the dead (even dead blogs) but the new design is infinitely cleaner and more useful. Congratulations all around.

  4. Boy, I don’t want to be a party pooper, but IT .. .IS .. SLOW.

“Yes, it’s beautiful”, and “Yes, it’s modern” but IT .. IS .. SLOW.

Maybe you need a quicker page rendering server, but IT .. IS .. SLOW.

  5. You’re definitely getting it better tuned, Chris. The last couple of days it’s seemed noticeably more responsive.

Still, like all “modern” software, the visual improvements seem to come at the cost of an overall “ponderosity” (new word). All those object instantiations take time.

  6. Chris,

I don’t know what you did this morning, but I am glad you reverted it or added another step! You were unreachable for about 30 minutes. No 504’s, just the spinning circle……..
