Finally, the Trio Cars

Picture052_25May07

I had the pleasure of riding one of the new Inekon Trio cars today (Vehicle # 009) for the first time today (at least on this continent). Apparently the safety paperwork finally cleared a couple of days ago, and they’re starting to go into service.

I’d like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation to the Streetcar maintenance folks who have been keeping a six-car operation going with only seven vehicles since last fall when the Gibbs extension opened. Incredible job.

  1. So when are we getting full time seven vehicles?

Gratz to the crews on the paperwork finally getting done. I was just talking to one of the drivers about that recently.

  2. Sweet. I’m stoked. Now if we could just get rid of some of those blasted stop signs and fix that Lovejoy rush hour problem we’d be rolling good and steady on the rails! :)

  3. The new models seem to have improved accelleration properties. The abrupt accelleration of the initial model, that throws standee’s off balance, seems to be reduced. If so, good job.

Question: How many Skoda streecars are in the fleet now?

  4. I saw one go by over the weekend… the inverters seemed slightly quieter and I did not notice the usual rattle… Can you confirm if this design is indeed quieter?

  5. I just rode one of the new streetcars the other day. Here are my observations:

    -extremely quiet
-almost as smooth as a MAX train
-smooth, jerk-free acceleration (no more falling!)

I didn’t feel the bumps in the track like the old trains, no clicking from the flat wheels… I love it! Felt exactly like when I rode the trams in Europe.
Also, I’d like to note that I rode the streetcars when they first were rolled out… these new ones are better than the original ones new.
