Lake Oswego/Portland Transit Design Workshop

The project advisory committee for the Willamette Shoreline transit alternatives analysis is holding a community design workshop:

Tuesday, May 30, 2006
5:30 pm-8:30 pm

Draft locations for a bus line, rail line, trail and river transit that were developed by the 21-member, citizen project advisory committee will be presented and discussed along with information about the project timeline, possible mitigation measures and future public involvement opportunities.

The Lake Oswego to Portland Transit and Trail Alternatives Analysis is a federally-funded study that will develop and evaluate transit and trail alternatives in the Lake Oswego to Portland corridor and select one or more preferred alternatives to be advanced for further study. The process begins with scoping, the definition of a range of transit and trail alternatives to be considered in the study. The cities of Lake Oswego and Portland, Clackamas and Multnomah counties, the Oregon Department of Transportation and TriMet are partners with Metro in this study.

  1. well, this is good news!

I’m really excited about the LO streetcar. It seems to be a really important development in terms of how transit is configured in the metro area.

A trail would be a nice addition as well. But the LO alignment would be an big step for the whole streetcar program.

Does anybody know the planned headways or the trip time from the CBD to downtown LO?

  2. Since the current operating concept is that the LO line would be an extension of the current RiverPlace to NW 23rd line, headways should be similar to today (12-13 min at peak service). Of course some of us would still like to persuade TriMet and City Council to fund additional operating dollars to get that down to 10 min!

I’d don’t recall the trip-time estimate. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

  3. I still don’t see why we can’t resolve problems by just charging for ridership on the streetcar.

In reality why should Trimet or City Council actually fund the streetcar? It’s supposed to be a non-profit business entity! It should at least break even so it doesn’t incur a cost to people that DON’T use it. It’s really dishonest, unfair, and rather corrupt to keep begging for operations dollars.

Blagh, I digress, I’m not going to rant any further.

  4. Answering the earlier question, the back-of-the-envelope estimate on travel time from LO to PSU is 30 minutes. But that still has a tremendous number of variables in it, so don’t consider it anything like a real number.
