DNA Opposes Transit Mall Plan

Update: Jim Karlock has posted a video of the meeting (Real Media).

My sources tell me the Downtown Neighborhood Association just voted to oppose the Transit Mall plan, but I don’t have any specific details about their opposition.

Were any of our readers there? Can you fill us in?

  1. I hope this leads to some transit plans that make financial sense–not what simply benefits a particular interest group. I am looking forward to Comm. Adams conference–have already sent him a letter.

  2. A split vote from a NA that earlier had signed off on the plan will not have much impact, indeed should not have much.
One advantage of the Weave is that it allows riders to transfer between MAX and bus without crossing tracks.
The through lane should be a good bicycle route through Downtown as well, comparable to Yamhill/Morrison.
Now we need to move on to the next big thing…getting the Yellow Line across the Columbia.

  3. I’ve heard a lot of talk recently about the design for the new unbroken auto lane on the mall being a good thing for bicyclists as well–shouldn’t we be calling this the “auto/bike lane” then? And, does anyone know if planners are going to be painting ‘sharrows’ in this lane? That would placate my concerns about this PBA-friendly design considerably.

  5. Shouldn’t we be calling this the “auto/bike lane” then?

It is officially being referred to as a “multi-modal lane”. As to specific paving treatments, signage or markings, those have not yet been decided.

  6. I was there for most of it; report coming tonight.
Chris, are you familiar with the players on the steering committee? The best comments were from someone whose name I could not get.
