The City of Portland is ramping up its efforts to make our streets more environmentally friendly. From the Daily Journal of Commerce:
A policy approved by Portland City Council in April makes green street features like curb extensions, bioswales and stormwater planter systems a required part of all city-funded infrastructure projects in the public right-of-way.

Hey Chris, how are curb extensions considered to be “green” features?
If they contain plantings (up to and including a bioswale) they help trap runoff and reduce impervious surface.
I love the idea, but I have to wonder what is the extra cost? These small projects usually don’t sound so bad, but when you figure them into every project the numbers can really explode.
In NW Industrial it seems somewhat pointless, as in other areas. Let’s not worry about beautifying NW Industrial, as long as jobs will stay there.
