Donald Shoup Interview on Curb Parking

This video interview is from Streetsblog. It’s a nice summary of Shoup’s theses in six minutes.

  1. I notice Shoup doesn’t tell us exactly what price point would leave NYC with a 15% street parking vacancy rate. (Hint: it would have to be so absurdly high as, well, I can’t even start to guess. $20 an hour? And then…what to do with the tens of thousands of drivers every day who simply ignore all parking regulations anyway, including cars with diplomatic license plates and, well, police cars who in NY have never passed a sidewalk they don’t love to park on.

I’ll cop to not having read his book –and I’m promising myself I will– but this seems awfully naive and theoretical…and who wants to be Pasadena anyway?
