Work continues on the Jasmine Block double track work. This week, crews have completed the saw cut in 4th Avenue and yesterday, track was being positioned for tie down.
Streetcar service continues uninterrupted at this point however, there will be a shut down coming next week while track tie in and electrical work is brought up to par.
Crews have come a long way in a few weeks. Note the picture above from 9-9-2014 and the same view from 8-24-2014. Stay tuned, this will wrap up quickly.

It looks like this will reduce 4th avenue from 3 to 2 lanes in this section. The question then becomes: does the remaining section of 4th Ave to the north need to be 3 or even 4 lanes as it is today? Has PBOT considered a west-side protected 2-way cycle track? Looking at the satellite view, I can easily picture one running from Caruthers on the south end, all the way to Burnside. It would need to run up on the sidewalk between Harrison and Montgomery. Portland is really lacking good, safe north/south connections downtown.
Motor vehicles will be able to use the lane with the new northbound track, so 4th is not narrowed here. The city does need to make downtown easier to negotiate by bike, particularly southbound (uphill). Broadway and 3rd are the best candidates for protected bike lanes; the Park Blocks (Park and 9th) would be lovely.
Is the construction on schedule?
The construction workers on site seem to think so.
I see that on the other side of the river, the other(?) milestone will be made where the tracks will be hooked up to MAX next week.
This whole thing has created a huge traffic nightmare, which was probably intended knowing how the city leaders think
You are traffic.
the money that should have been spent on the future Red Electric Trail..
