The team that built Walk Score has a new a project – a utility that shows you are far you can get on transit in a given amount of time. Portland is one of three cities in the “Transit Time Map” technology demo.

  1. Do they have one to show how far you can drive in a similar amount of time?

    Travel time is also an indicator of how much choice you have for potential jobs. The faster the travel, the more job choices you have and the higher income you can expect.

    Wendell Cox showed a map of transit time vs drive time for Portland and it showed that owing a car greatly increased you job choices and therefore your income.

    You do know that there is no direct correlation between job “choices” and income, right? The fact that I could have a job in Beaverton is no guarantee that it will pay more than a job in downtown Portland.
