Buy Your Fare on Your Phone

Sick of those ticket machines? TriMet's working with a local company on an app to buy your ticket...

Excellent. Good riddance to those awful ticket machines. They've used an SMS system in Prague for several years, at least.

I'm curious how you deal with enforcement. What's to stop people from only buying electronic fare if they see fare inspectors?

I would geo/time stamp the purchase location so that an inspector can reasonably tell if it was purchased in-between stops. It would work for MAX. A little harder on a bus, but then there is the bus driver to help. Streetcar would probably not work all that well as the stops are close together like a bus but the driver is not in the passenger cabin...

I'm not cool enough for an iPhone. Are they going to do an Android version as well? The article is very vague about which operating systems will be supported.
