Watch Out for Streetcars!

Track testing for the Streetcar Loop will take place Tuesday through Thursday next week (Feb 21-23). Look for the first vehicles to appear on the east side (and on the Broadway Bridge)!

There is a reader board on MLK warning of the upcoming tests. Make me look up...my goodness, that really is an overhead wire. I hadn't even noticed the poles being in place.

I've done a little searching about this, but couldn't find an answer. If we can run the streetcars on it, why do we have to wait until September for it to open?

Chris Smith Says:

Because:

1) We don't have vehicles to run yet.

and

2) We don't have money to pay operators earlier than September.

I'd add:

3) It takes more time to get a line ready for full-blown operations than just occasional (slow?) testing.

So when do the new cars start arriving? :) I want pictures? Will there be new colors and such?

Chris, thanks for the answer. Those answers were my first guess, but I couldn't find a definite answer.
