The Right Way to Go?

Speaking of vans, I heard something recently at a meeting that I find very interesting: that UPS is changing their routing algorithms so that driver's routes will exclusively use right-hand turns.

Does anyone have a confirmed source for that?

UPS has been a great partner in Metro's Drive Less. Save More. campaign, helping us show people how to use their cars more efficiently. These guys are the absolute best at finding ways to cut down on driving because every single moment an engine is running, it's costing them money.

KOIN did a story last summer on UPS' use of this simple concept and how people can apply it to their own driving. We don't have it on our website, but I'll send it to Chris and maybe he has a way of hosting it.

Is there a google maps type site that will compute directions with maximum right turns?

joe, that would be awesome. If I find a right turn map I'll post an article/comment on it.

As for UPS I'm not sure, but I've heard similar things. I'm going to inquire with my Fedex contacts to see what they do too - cuz now you went and got me all curious.
